Nora Yagolnitser is a high-school student and volunteer at Friendship Circle of Washington. She was inspired to write this story by a visit to the park with her special-needs friend, and by the constant strength and love of her friend’s mother, which never fail to shine through.
I have learned to train my eyes on Charlie’s brilliant smile and to forget the other children gawking at her on the playground.
